How do you configure the predefined AI search suggestions in Involv intranet

This article explains how to manage the predefined AI search suggestions in Involv Manager — the example questions users see in AI-assisted search before they start typing.

 1. Overview

Involv intranet 5.4 lets you configure the predefined AI search suggestions — the example questions users see in the AI-assisted search experience before they start typing. Replacing the defaults with questions that match your organisation's most common needs makes search feel relevant from the first click.

You manage these in a different part of Involv Manager from the AI Config panel, so this is a separate task from switching AI on. Use it whenever you want the example questions in search to reflect what your people actually look for.

4. Open the AI search suggestions editor

You manage these in a different part of Involv Manager from the AI Config panel. Go to Configuration > Search > Manage AI Search Suggestions. This opens the editor for the underlying InvolvSearchSuggestions list.

5. Add, edit, or remove a suggestion

To add a suggestion, click Add and fill in the three columns:

  • Title — the question the user sees, for example "Who can help me with a broken laptop?"
  • InvolvSearchType — which result group the suggestion belongs to (for example people). This controls where the suggestion appears in the results; a people suggestion shows under the People group in search.
  • Description — a short supporting line shown beneath the title, for example "I am looking for IT help".

Select a row and click Delete to remove a suggestion. When you are done, click Save (or Reset to discard your changes). The Go to SharePoint list link opens the underlying list directly if you need it.

6. Manage suggestions in multiple languages

Because suggestions are multilingual, each language has its own column. If a language is missing, a banner appears — "The configuration list for this webpart is missing columns for the following languages" — and you can click Add Columns to create them. Use the translate action on a row to help fill in the other languages.

7. How the suggestions appear to users

Once saved, the suggestions appear for users who have AI Assisted search switched on: they are shown under the search bar, grouped by their search type (for example, under People), before the user types anything.

Note: these predefined suggestions are static questions you set here. They are different from the dynamic "Other potential queries you might be interested in" follow-up suggestions that AI Search generates automatically from a user's query.

8. Result

Your predefined AI search suggestions now reflect your organisation's real questions, and they appear under the search bar for users with AI-assisted search enabled. You can update them at any time from Configuration > Search > Manage AI Search Suggestions.
