How do you enable SharePoint Agents for Microsoft Copilot in PnP Search results?

Let end users with a Microsoft Copilot licence start a Copilot chat about the items they select in a PnP Search Results component.

1. Overview

SharePoint Agent support for Microsoft Copilot is a feature introduced in Involv intranet 5.3.1. It lets end users — who have a valid Microsoft Copilot licence — select one or more result items in a PnP Search Results component and start a Copilot chat specifically about those items.

This is useful when users work with documents surfaced through Involv Search and want to quickly ask Copilot to summarise, compare, or extract information from a specific subset of those documents — without leaving the intranet or copying content into a separate tool.

The feature is opt-in per PnP Search Results component. An administrator enables it in the component configuration, and it is only visible to end users whose account has a Copilot licence.

4. Before you start

Make sure the following are in place:

5. Select a compatible template

Open the PnP Search Results properties panel and go to Page 2/4. In the Available layouts section, pick a Documents-type template:

  • Documents With Card View
  • Documents With Roll Up View

SP Agents for Copilot is only available on these Documents templates. If you select another template (such as News, Events, or Cards), the SP Agents toggle will not appear in the configuration panel.

6. Enable item selection

Still on Page 2/4, scroll down to the Selection options section:

  1. Turn Allow items selection On. Two extra toggles appear.
  2. Turn Allow multiple selection On.

Both toggles must be On before the Copilot option becomes available in the configuration.

7. Enable SP Agents for Copilot

With a compatible Documents template selected and multi-item selection enabled, a new toggle appears: Enable SP Agents for Copilot.

Turn Enable SP Agents for Copilot On, and click Republish at the top of the page to push the configuration live.

Even though multi-selection must be enabled in the component configuration, end users can start a Copilot chat with as few as one selected item.

8. End-user experience

Once the component is republished, users with a Microsoft Copilot licence can:

  1. Browse the PnP Search Results on the page and select one or more cards by clicking the selection control on each card.
  2. After making a selection, choose the Copilot option to start a chat scoped to the selected items.
  3. Ask Copilot questions about the selected items. Copilot uses the content of those items as context for its responses — for example, summarising, comparing, or extracting information.

Users who do not have a Copilot licence assigned will not see the Copilot option, even when they select items.

9. Result

Your PnP Search Results component now lets Copilot-licensed users run contextual AI conversations about any combination of result items they select — from a single document up to a full set. This works particularly well on document-heavy search pages where users need to compare, summarise, or extract details from one or more files at once.
